The Practice of the Absence of God
There is no fear of God before their eyes.
We are familiar with Brother Lawrence and his Practice of the Presence of God, but someone has called secularism the Practice of His Absence. It is the way of life for this generation. To moderns for the most part, this universe is a machine wound up and running down with no purpose behind it, no objective before it. We live as though God did not exist, as though man were the arbiter of his own destiny. At most He is dismissed as a grandfather trotting his children on his knee and winking at the wickedness of the sons of men. We have made our own noose and the stage is set for the hanging of civilization. The issue remains: Is God nowhere or is He now here?
