Quote of the Day

Sometime ago a man said to me: “I work in an acid factory. A little of that stuff can kill you, but it is not the new workers who get burned. it is the old hands who grow careless.” Something like that is true in Christian experience. There is the peril of getting used to being a Christian so that we grow careless and no longer watch and pray.

The daily devotions are from Pepper ‘n Salt by Vance Havner. Fleming H. Revell Company, 1966.

  1. I wish I had more to offer but I was only 6 years old when Vance left First Baptist in Charleston. Shortly afterwards I can recall my mom and dad talking about him at length. Mom played the piano for him and his radio show in Charleston. Both of them spoke frequently with Vance in years to follow and as I remember, they traveled to NC once to meet Sara, his wife. Beyond that there was only the frequent mention of his name and the talk of receiving letters from him.
