  1. Years ago I pastored Lee Rd. Baptist Church in Taylors, S.C. Vance was with us for a week of “revival” services. It was a great time. Sometime later he spent a week at North Greenville Jr. College and he called me to come and spend the day with him, and I did. What a time. He shared something with me that I well remember. Vance said: “What America needs is a prophet. We have evangelists galore but we need a prophet.” He went on to say that he had met a young preacher in Texas that he thought would be God’s choice for such a prophet but he went a different route and became a TV host, etc. Vance was one of the most humble men I’ve ever been around and “Miss” Sara was a delight to know. Just wish this generation coulod hear him preach.

    1. Must have been before 1972 when we came to LRBC. But he did stay in our home in Cherryville in the mid-1950’s when did a revival at FBC.

    2. This generation CAN hear him preach and in some cases see as well as hear… MP3 from Sermon Audio and similar sites..just google vance havner sermons and voila… you have them. I invite his memorable word constructions to filter into my subconsious by wearing my trusty mp3 player earphones when I goto sleep. Haven’t had any near death experiences yet with the wires wrapped around my neck 🙂 I don’t have wires, it’s a headset only type.

  2. I never got to her Dr havner preach but have been priviledged to hear two recorded sermons and they were great. I wish I could find more. They would make great listening music while I walk each day.

  4. never met the man but have listen to his sermons on cassettes worn one out on sparrows use his quotes in teaching sunday school from time to time

  5. I am so blessed to have a wonderful husband who got me 2 volumes of Vance Havner’s sermons for Christmas! I had never heard of him before, but now I am just drinking in his messages. I’ve been a Christian since I was a little girl; I’ve gone to many different churches, went to Bible college, and have never, never heard preaching like his! For those looking for this volume set, my husband got it through the Today In The Word program of Moody Bible Institute.

  6. I had the opportunity to hear Dr. Havner preach at Clifton Baptist Church, and was blessed by his preaching. Quite a few of his recorded sermons can be found on SermonAudio. I download them and listen to them as I walk on my treadmill.

  7. I truly wish I could have heard Vance Havner preach. I am not Baptist, but Nazarene, so he never came to our church, but would have loved hearing him. I have many of his books and read them over and over again. What a blessing he has been to my life.

  8. BOUGHT ONE OF HIS BOOKS MY FIRST YEAR AT BBC SPRINGFIELD AND PROMPTLY DROVE TO GREENSBORO NORTH CAROLINA FOR AN AUDIENCE. AMAZINGLY HE WAS HOME THAT WEEK AND WAS PATIENT AND KIND TO A YELLOW JACKET PREACHER BOY. I HAVE EVERY ONE OF HIS BOOKS AND I’VE PREACHED EVERYONE OF HIS SERMONS THROUGH THE YEARS. AN AMAZING INTELLECT, A GIANT INTELLECTUALLY AND YET A SIMPLE MAN. OH HOW I MISS HIS PEN AND PRESENCE!

  9. Truly enjoyed reading up on him. I am new to hearing of him. So wish I could of known more of him. Thank you to my brother for leading me in this directuon. So enjoyed the biography read and the comments. I will definitely dig into finding reads of Vance.

  10. Heard Vance Havner preach on 2 occasions at First Baptist, Lilburn, Ga. Have his signature on TWO bible fly-leafs, both accompanied by “2 Cor 4:5.” I often
quote him in what is now my 55th year as a teacher of the Word of God. I often thank God that he returned to his original way of preaching – otherwish, as he confessed, he would have been just another purveyor of ‘comfortable Christianity.’

  11. Great to find this site! I heard him preach on Moody radio many times and have most of his books. He has been a great influence in my life. I have been preaching and teaching the Word for almost 50 years! I am so thankful for faithful men and women of God that have impacted my life! I am a missionary pastor in Alaska! I have served God all across this great state of Alaska! Listened today! What a blessing. Thank you!
