A Tryst With God
And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend.
Exodus 33:11
The men God has used most through the ages bear one common mark – at some time in their lives they came to a tryst with God, to a secret understanding with the Most High. They had a private meeting with the Eternal, a rendezvous with the Almighty. The Bible carries a series of such experiences, from Genesis to Revelation. The pages of church history abound with such records.
Such men come to God alone, like Jacob at Jabbok, Moses in Midian, John on Patmos. Eagles do no fly in droves. After waiting on God, these men mounted on wings as eagles.
“After he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavored to go” (Acts 16:10). The vision does not come to the crowd but to the individual. Moses met God, and then the people followed Moses. No man is prepared to meet the people until first he has met God. Our Lord Himself began a busy day in the desert alone at prayer.
Begin your life work, begin your day, with God.
