Are You Thirsty?
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee; my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.
Psalm 63:1
A dry land, a thirsty soul, and a satisfying God (v. 5, “My soul shall be satisfied”). “He satisfieth the longing soul and filleth the hungry soul with goodness” (Ps. 107:9). How barren is the land with its broken cisterns that can hold no water!
Does your soul pant after God as the hart pants after the water brooks? “Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.” They are blessed because they shall be filled! “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink” (Jno. 7:37).
A Satisfying God. “O God, thou art my God.” A lot of praying gets no further than “O God.” There is the personal appropriation, “Thou art my God!”
“Early will I seek thee.” “Those that seek me early shall find me” (Prov. 8:17). Early in life: “Remember thy Creator in the days of thy youth.” Early in the day like Jesus in the morning.
