When the Supply Seems Inadequate

They say unto him, We have here but five loaves and two fishes. He said, Bring them hither to me.
Matthew 14:17, 18

Jesus had told His disciples to feed the hungry multitude. But their resources seemed utterly inadequate to the demand – and the command.

Has the Lord commissioned you to a task for which you have not the wherewithal? As with the man in the parable, have your friends come to you in their journey and you have nothing to set before them? Are you wondering how in the world to stretch your loaves and fishes to feed so many hungry mouths? Your family, your life work, your church, your Bible class – you look at your pitiful resources and sigh, “What are they among so many?”

“Bring them hither to me.” Little is much when He takes over. “Who is sufficient for these things? Our sufficiency is of God.” But all our efficiency is only a deficiency.

There were basketfuls left over. God always gives overflowing measure, “good measure, pressed down, and shaken together and running over.” He giveth liberally, exceedingly abundantly, above all that we can ask or think. He will turn your scarcity into a surplus. Bring it to Him.

Quote of the Day

Nothing is needed more in this sad day than a John the Baptist, a prophetic voice in this pathetic wilderness. There are echoes aplenty in an age of “me-tooism,” and lots of rubber stamps, but few spokesmen for God. It is a thankless task. John the Baptist was not a welcome visitor in Herod’s court. His faithful ministry cost him his head, and his successors will not fare much better. God send us a voice in this wilderness, not an echo!
